Alessandro Sanquirico: Engraving 'Mario a Minturno', Late 1700s/Early 1800s
Aquatint engraving by Alessandro Sanquirico (Milan, 1777 - 1849) depicting 'Mario a Minturno', inspired by the painting by Jean Germain Drouais (1786). Approximately 44x58 cm. Dated between the late 1700s and early 1800s. Sanquirico contributed to the construction of theaters such as the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza. He created the Arena in Milan with Andrea Appiani and il Bargigli, and worked on the Duomo in Milan.
