Veronica Gambara. The True Portrait?
Studio Liquor Vitae — Pietro Vocale and Liliana Vocale, 2017
Veronica Gambara. The True Portrait? is an iconographic and art-historical study of a portrait found in a Roman noble collection among old paintings and various holdings. A paper label on the reverse of the stretcher names the sitter as Veronica Gambara and gives the date 1520.
The volume reconstructs the biographical profile of the Petrarchist poet (wife of Giberto di Correggio) and places the work within the debate on Gambara’s iconography, comparing written sources and known portraits.
